On Stuff: Made in Where?

CONTENT:
1. A brief overview of the history of American consumerism
2. A discussion of the impact of production and consumption on local / global peoples and the environment
3. To learn action options and make a reasonable personal action plan
a) Reduce/reuse stuff at home/word (and save $, etc)
b) Becoming an educated buyer – fair trade / local / fair labor
c) Saving and investing in better systems – SRI
OBJECTIVES:
Participants will be able to
- Describe the shortcomings and challenges of current model: consumption not related to quality of life, consumption degrades environment and causes oppression in production process
- Identify available alternatives: reduce overall consumption, educated consumption and investment in long-term change through SRI
- Collaborate to set goals for pursuing alternatives individually and as a group
